A's Acquire INF Jake Elmore from White Sox

The Oakland A's have acquired infielder Jake Elmore from the Chicago White Sox for cash considerations, the club announced this morning. In a corresponding 40-man roster move, the team has designated infielder Andy Parrino for assignment.

Elmore, 26, is a .291 career hitter with 110 stolen bases in six minor league seasons with Chicago, Arizona and Houston. The 5-9, 185-pound Dothan, Ala. native has also seen limited Major League action, batting .242 with eight doubles, two home runs and 13 RBI in 52 games with the Astros last season and hitting .191 with four doubles and seven RBI in 30 games with the Diamondbacks in 2012.

A teammate of Eric Sogard's at Arizona State, Elmore was named to the Pacific Coast League's Mid-Season All-Star Team and was a Topps Triple-A All-Star with the Reno Aces in 2012.

Parrino, who was acquired by the Athletics in a 2012 trade with the San Diego Padres involving pitcher Tyson Ross, batted .118 with two doubles and one RBI in 14 games in Oakland last season. The 28-year-old infielder also hit .210 with 16 doubles, three triples, four homers and 36 RBI in 108 games with Triple-A Sacramento last year.
