Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation Announces Creation of Fort Worth RBI Program for 2014

Registration continues through March 12

Arlington, Texas-The Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation today announced that Major League Baseball's Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) program will come to Fort Worth for the first time in 2014.

The Rangers Foundation will join with manager Ron Washington and pitcher Martin Perez in providing financial support for the creation of the Fort Worth program. For the first time, children from ages 13 thru 18 can participate in RBI through the City of Fort Worth Youth Athletics Program.

With the support of the Foundation, Washington, and Perez, each RBI participant will receive a Rangers jersey and cap along with baseball equipment for each team. The youngsters will also have opportunities to participate in exclusive Rangers experiences including RBI Day at Globe Life Park on Sunday, July 13 when they will receive complimentary tickets and participate in a pre-game field parade.

The registration fee for the 2014 Fort Worth RBI program is $10.00 for a community center membership and $15.00 for the league. The community center membership gives youngsters access to all centers and their programming in Fort Worth.

Interested parents can register at any of the 20 Fort Worth Community Centers or call the City of Fort Worth Youth Athletics Program at (817)392-7690. Registration ends on Wednesday, March 12.

Fort Worth becomes the third city to participate in the RBI Program due to funding by the Rangers Foundation, joining Dallas and Arlington.

The Rangers will also host the 2014 and 2015 RBI World Series, the international championship tournament of the RBI. The RBI program, which is in its 26th year of operation, is administered by Major League Baseball and is designed to give young people from underserved and diverse communities the opportunity to play baseball and softball, encourage academic achievement and success, and teach the value of teamwork and other important life lessons.
