Pirates Name Milver Reyes 2014 Chuck Tanner Award Winner

The Pittsburgh Pirates today presented Gulf Coast League Pirates Manager Milver Reyes with the 2014 Chuck Tanner Award. The organizational award started in 2011 and is given each year to a member of the Pirates Minor League staff who best exemplifies Tanner's optimism, work ethic and leadership. 

Reyes enters his 15th season with the organization, and his second season as manager of the Gulf Coast League Pirates. Reyes began his career with the Pirates when he was signed as a catcher on July 7, 1999 and played in the Venezuelan Summer League for the 2000 season. 

His professional career spanned 10 years where he played in a total of 434 games in the Pirates minor league system. Reyes advanced as high as Triple-A, appearing in 14 games with Indianapolis (International League) in 2007.

The Pirates saw Milver's capabilities as a leader during his time as a player/coach from 2010 to 2012with the Bradenton Marauders (High-A) and GCL Pirates. In his 2013 managerial debut season, Reyes led the Rookie League affiliate to a first-place finish in the Northwest Division with a 33-27 record.

Reyes makes his home in Palmetto, Fla, with his wife Servita and two children; daughter Mercedez Angelina (6) and son Milver Alejandro (3).
