Braves Agree to Terms with Ervin Santana on One-Year Contract

The Atlanta Braves have agreed to terms with free-agent right-handed pitcher Ervin Santana on a one-year Major League contract. Financial terms of the deal were not announced. Santana will wear uniform number 30.

Santana, 33, went 9-10 with a 3.24 ERA in 32 starts for the Kansas City Royals last season, when he tied for fourth in the American League with 23 "quality starts" and ranked eighth with a WHIP (walks plus hits per inning pitched) of 1.14. 

Over nine Major League seasons (all in the A.L.), Santana owns a 105-90 record with a 4.19 ERA in 268 appearances (265 starts). He has logged at least 200 innings pitched in five of the last eight seasons and posted an ERA of 3.87 over the last four campaigns (since 2010). His 80 quality starts from 2010 to 2013 ranked eighth in the American League, while his 128 starts in that four-year span ranked tied for sixth in the circuit. 

Santana was originally signed by the Anaheim Angels in 2000 as a non-drafted free agent. A 2008 A.L. All-Star, he tossed a no-hitter on July 27, 2011, at Cleveland while with the Angels.
