2014 Opening Day Festivities

The Club's 20th Home Opener at 20th and Blake in Downtown Denver

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies will celebrate one of baseball's grand traditions with Opening Day 2014 scheduled for this Friday, April 4 vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks, first pitch at 2:10 p.m. In what has become a special occasion for the community and Rockies' fans throughout the region, pregame ceremonies will feature extensive entertainment and traditional Opening Day festivities. The day will showcase the Club's new off-season roster additions, multi-million dollar stadium enhancements and additions to the ballpark, as well as new food offerings that will be available in 2014. The stadium additions are highlighted by the opening of the new right field Rooftop, the largest fan deck in sports at 38,000 square feet.

Opening Day at Coors Field will also feature a traditional "America's Pastime" theme, with a parade around the warning track that pays tribute to all branches of the United States military. In addition, members of the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard will present our nation's colors, while an oversized American flag is unfurled on the field by 150 uniformed personnel from the military, Denver Police and Fire Departments.

The Colorado Symphony Orchestra will perform the Star Spangled Banner and will later entertain the fans as the Rockies take the home field for the first time in 2014 with a live rendition of the new Rockies theme music, "Take the Field."

Three first pitches will be thrown out this year. The first by Rockies season ticket holder Andrew Wildenberg, the second by King Sooper's Director of Real Estate, Randy Wright, and the third by Special Community Guest Jon Lujan. Lujan, a Littleton, CO native, served in the United States Marine Corps for more than eight and a half years and is currently a member of the U.S Paralympic Alpine National Ski Team. Jon was selected as the flag bearer for the U.S. Paralympic Team at the Opening Ceremony for the Sochi 2014 Paralympic Winter Games.

The parking lots at Coors Field will open at 9 a.m., with Rooftop gates A and B opening at 11 a.m. Fans are encouraged to attend the Rooftop opening and the annual Opening Day Fest on Blake and 21st Streets beginning at 11 a.m. Rooftop activities will feature music spun by DJ Billy Beats and pregame drink specials through first pitch.
