Dodgers acquire left-hander Colt Hynes from Indians

Mike Baxter designated for assignment, minor league RHP Duke von Schamann traded to Indians

LOS ANGELES - The Los Angeles Dodgers today acquired left-handed pitcher Colt Hynes from Cleveland in exchange for minor league right-handed pitcher Duke von Schamann. Hynes was added to the 40-man roster and optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque. To create room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers designated outfielder Mike Baxter for assignment.

Hynes, 28, appeared in 22 games last season for the Padres in his first big league action after an impressive minor league campaign with Double-A San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson, where he combined to go 2-0 with four saves and a 1.52 ERA in 41 appearances. Overall, he has gone 21-25 with a 3.59 ERA in 323 games (21 starts) in seven minor league seasons in the Padres organization after he was originally selected by San Diego in the 31st round of the 2007 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas Tech University. Hynes was acquired by the Indians from San Diego on Oct. 31, 2013 and spent Spring Training with Cleveland.

Von Schamann has gone 18-11 with a 3.93 ERA in 43 games (37 starts) in three minor league seasons after he was selected by the Dodgers in the 15th round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Texas Tech University.

Baxter was optioned by the Dodgers on Friday after appearing in four games with the club this season.
