White Sox place Avisail Garcia on the 15-day disabled list and recall outfielder Jordan Danks from Class AAA Charlotte

The Chicago White Sox have placed outfielder Avisail Garcia on the 15-day disabled list with a torn labrum in his left shoulder and recalled outfielder Jordan Danks from Class AAA Charlotte.

Garcia, 22, is scheduled to undergo season-ending surgery within the next week after suffering the injury yesterday at Colorado attempting to make a diving catch in the sixth inning. X-rays yesterday at Coors Field were negative, but an MRI this morning at Rush University Medical Center revealed the torn labrum.

Garcia was batting .267 (8-30) with two home runs, four RBI and six runs scored in eight games this season, including his first career multihomer game on Tuesday against the Rockies. Since being acquired from Detroit on July 30, 2013 as part of a three-team trade involving Boston, he has hit .298 (57-191) with seven home runs and 25 RBI in 50 games with the White Sox.

Danks, 27, was batting .182 (4-22) with one home run and four RBI in six games with Charlotte this season after hitting .333 (14-42) with a team-high five homers and 10 RBI in 20 games this spring.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Danks is a career .229 (52-227) hitter with six home runs and 16 RBI in 129 games over parts of two seasons with the White Sox (2012-13). He will wear uniform No. 20.
