Twins claim outfielder Sam Fuld off waivers from Oakland

Mastroianni designated for assignment

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN - The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have claimed outfielder Sam Fuld off waivers from the Oakland Athletics. In seven games with the A's this season, Fuld hit .200 (6-for-30) with two triples, one home run, four RBI, three walks, one stolen base and five runs scored.

The 32-year-old was originally drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 10th round of the 2004 First-Year Player Draft. He has hit .233 (173-for-743) with 28 doubles, 13 triples, seven home runs, 58 RBI, 83 walks, 38 stolen bases and 108 runs scored in 373 career games in parts of seven seasons with Chicago-NL, Tampa Bay and Oakland.

To make room for Fuld on the 40-man and 25-man roster, the Twins designated outfielder Darin Mastroianni for assignment. Mastroianni has gone 0-for-11 with five strikeouts in seven games since having his contract selected from Rochester April 10.

Fuld will join the team in Tampa Bay and be in uniform for Tuesday night's game.
