White Sox host Pink Out game in support of breast cancer awareness and education

Team Up with Chicagoland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for May 10 Game at U.S. Cellular Field

CHICAGO - The Chicago White Sox are teaming up with the Chicagoland affiliate of Susan G. Komen to support breast cancer awareness and education with the White Sox Pink Out game on May 10. Fans are invited to show their support and help increase awareness about breast health and screening by wearing pink to that evening's game vs. Arizona.

The first 10,000 women ages 14 years and older will receive a White Sox pink scarf. The White Sox Pink Out game also will include a pregame ceremony and tribute starting at 5:30 p.m., which includes breast cancer survivors taking the field with White Sox players. During the game, White Sox players will show their support by wearing pink caps. Pink shirts also will be available for purchase, with a portion of proceeds going to the Komen Chicagoland affiliate. A postgame fireworks display will be set to a soundtrack of songs that honors the strength and spirit of breast cancer survivors and all who are impacted by this disease.

"The goal is to do something that truly spreads awareness of a cause that impacts so many loved ones," said Brooks Boyer, White Sox senior vice president of sales and marketing.

The Komen Chicagoland affiliate, as well as Gilda's Club Chicago, will have a presence at the game to spread awareness and discuss available resources and services. A Silver Lining Foundation also will be present to provide information on free screening options.

About 1.3 million people are diagnosed with breast cancer every year, making it the most prevalent cancer in the world today. While there is no exact known cause of the disease, people have a better chance of survival than ever before with heightened awareness, early detection through screening, improved treatment methods and increased access to breast health services. Additional breast health resources and information are available at komenchicago.org.

Tickets to the May 10 Pink Out game vs. the Arizona Diamondbacks are available at whitesox.com, the U.S. Cellular Field ticket office and through Ticketmaster.
