NYC All Star Sports Group Announces Yankee Stadium as Site for The Borough Cup

The NYC All Star Sports Group, founders of The Borough Cup is proud to announce that the site for the U12 and the U13/14 Championship games of The Cup will be the iconic Yankee Stadium.

"We are thrilled that the Yankees have taken an active role in partnering with us on the Borough Cup," said Craig Carton, co-host of WFAN's Boomer and Carton Morning Show and one of the Borough Cup's founders. "Clearly, there's no better place in the world to play these games than Yankee Stadium."

The Championship games will be played on August 14. Details will be announced soon.

"It is exciting for us to host the Borough Cup at Yankee Stadium," Yankees Chief Operating Officer Lonn Trost said. "We hope that providing this opportunity to local youth inspires them to do great things on the field and in the community."

The NYC All Star Sports Group, created by Carton, New York Mets Hall of Famer John Franco and Brooklyn Cyclones Assistant General Manager Gary Perone, announced in March that they will hold the inaugural Borough Cup in the summer of 2014.

New York Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira and New York Mets outfielder Curtis Granderson will serve as ambassadors for the event, which anticipates hundreds of teams to compete in the U9 through U13/U14 divisions.

"It's truly an honor to serve with Curtis as an ambassador for the Borough Cup," Teixeira said. "No matter who you root for, the Borough Cup is going to make every kid and community that participates a winner."

Franco, who grew up playing on the sandlots of Brooklyn, is adamant that the Borough Cup will bring unity and spirit to youth baseball throughout the city, stating that, "The only way to increase awareness and play in New York City is to have something to play for, and the Borough Cup does exactly that."

The tournament, which guarantees each team a minimum of four games, has already received numerous endorsements, including ones from Harlem RBI, N.Y. Travel Baseball League and each of the Borough Presidents.

"I am obsessed with the game of baseball so I absolutely love the idea of the Borough Cup," Staten Island Borough President James Oddo said. "This competition will energize youth baseball across the city and allow young people from all over the five boroughs to interact."

Intent on improving baseball throughout the city, the event has also teamed up with Mercedes Benz of Brooklyn, Modell's Sporting Goods, WFAN Radio, CTG Bats, JUMBOW and MCU to improve the city's forgotten fields.

"[We are] very excited to be a part of the first ever Borough Cup where we'll finally crown 1 Champion of 1 City," said Mitchell Modell, CEO of Modell's Sporting Goods. "We thought, 'What better way to begin celebrating our 125th anniversary, than to get involved with one of New York's biggest baseball tournaments while helping renovate fields in each of the boroughs.'"

Teams have until July 1 to register at www.BoroughCup.com, and play will begin soon after that.

Also coming to New York City in the fall will be the Borough Cup for Basketball. Basketball City in Manhattan will serve as the host for nearly all of the games.
