Jose Abreu named Co-American League Player of the Week

CHICAGO - Rookie first baseman Jose Abreu of the Chicago White Sox has been named co-American League Player of the Week for April 21-27, along with Seattle's Kyle Seager.

Abreu, 27, batted .310 (9-29) with five home runs, an AL-best 14 RBI, eight runs scored and a .862 slugging percentage to become the first White Sox player to win the honor since Alejandro De Aza on July 8-14, 2013.

He homered in back-to-back games on April 22-23 at Detroit, recorded his third multihomer game of the season and drove in a career-high six runs on Friday vs. Tampa Bay, including a game-ending grand slam, and homered with four RBI yesterday vs. the Rays.

Abreu leads the major leagues with 10 home runs and 31 RBI and has set major-league rookie records for most homers and RBI through April.
