Braves and Chris Johnson Agree to Terms on Three-Year Contract Extension
Contract includes an option for the 2018 season
ATLANTA - The Atlanta Braves announced today that they have agreed to terms with third baseman Chris Johnson on a three-year contract extension. The contract runs through the 2017 season and includes an option for the 2018 campaign. Financial terms of the deal were not announced.
"Chris has proved over the last year to be a valuable member of our team," Braves Executive Vice President and General Manager Frank Wren said. "We are happy to reach an agreement with him on this deal."
Johnson, 29, owns a career batting average of .287 with 46 home runs and 243 RBI. He finished the 2013 campaign ranked fifth in the majors and second in the National League with a career-high .321 (165-for-514) batting average in his first season with the Braves. In 2013, Johnson also produced career highs in doubles (34), at-bats (514) and games played (142).
Originally selected by the Houston Astros in the fourth round of the 2006 draft, Johnson was acquired by the Braves in January 2013 from the Arizona Diamondbacks along with outfielder Justin Upton.
