Indians place INF Jason Kipnis on 15-Day DL; promote INF Jose Ramirez from Columbus

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following roster moves relative to the Major League roster:
 
Placed INF JASON KIPNIS on the 15-day Disabled List with a strained right oblique (retroactive to April 30).
 
Recalled INF JOSE RAMIREZ (#11) from AAA Columbus
 
Kipnis begins his second career stint on the Major League DL after straining his right oblique in a
fourth inning at bat on Tuesday night vs. the LA Angels. So far this season he is hitting .234 (22-94) with 6 doubles, 3 home runs and 12 RBI in 27 games (.354/.394/.748). He is currently tied for 6th in the American League with 17 walks.
 
Ramirez, 22, spent the first month of the season with the AAA Columbus Clippers, hitting .319 (29-91) with 3 doubles, 4 home runs and 17RBI in 23 games. He currently ranks among International League in stolen bases (T3rd, 8), RBI (T8th, 17), home runs (T8th, 4) and hits (T9th, 29). He has appeared in 14 games at second base, 8 games at short and 1 game apiece at third base and centerfield while hitting .333 (12-36) with men on base so far this season. Jose, who reached safely via hit or walk in his first 21 games with Columbus, was limited to just 2 games this spring after rehabbing from off-season left thumb surgery.
