Astros Agree To Terms with RHP Kyle Farnsworth
Club options RHP Paul Clemens to Triple A
HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have agreed to terms with free agent right-handed pitcher Kyle Farnsworth, who will be in uniform for today's game. To make room for Farnsworth on the active roster, the Astros optioned right-handed pitcher Paul Clemens to Triple A Oklahoma City last night. The announcement was made by Astros General Manager Jeff Luhnow.
Farnsworth, 38, posted three saves and a 3.18 ERA (6ER/17IP) in 19 Major League games with the Mets this season. He was given his release on May 14, just two days after earning a save for the Mets in their 9-7 win over the Yankees on May 12 at Yankee Stadium. A veteran of 16 Major League seasons, Farnsworth has appeared in 877 career games with Chicago-NL (1999-2004), Detroit (2005, 2008), Atlanta (2005, 2010), New York-AL (2006-08), Kansas City (2009-10), Tampa Bay (2011-13), Pittsburgh (2013) and New York-NL (2014).
Clemens, 26, has made eight appearances for the Astros this season, posting a 4.08 ERA (8ER/17.2IP). He pitched last night vs. the White Sox, tossing 2.1 innings.
With the addition of Farnsworth, the Astros 40-man roster is now full at 40.
