Encarnacion named Honda Player of the Month

TORONTO BLUE JAYS 1B EDWIN ENCARNACION was named the HONDA PLAYER OF THE MONTH for May in a unanimous vote as selected by the TORONTO CHAPTER of the BBWAA. Honda, the official vehicle of the Blue Jays, will make a donation to the charity of Edwin's choosing.

ENCARNACION, 31, led the Majors in May with 16-HR, 22-XBH, .763 SLG & was 2nd with 33-RBI. The 16 home runs in May set a new club record for any month & was the most by any player in the month of May since Barry Bonds hit a ML record 17 in 2001. The right-handed hitter posted 33 RBI, the most in club history in the month of May & was one shy of the franchise mark in any calendar month held by Carlos Delgado (34-RBI in June, 2003). Among his 16 home runs included five multi-homer run contests to tie the all-time Major League record for multi-home run games in a month with Albert Belle (1995) and Harmon Killebrew (1959). Edwin is currently hitting .271 with 19 home runs (2nd in Majors) and 50 RBI (3rd in Majors).
