Royals claim pitcher Blake Wood on waivers from Cleveland

KANSAS CITY, MO (June 2, 2014) - The Kansas City Royals announced today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Blake Wood on outright waivers from the Cleveland Indians. Wood will be assigned to Omaha (AAA). To make room on the 40-man roster, right-handed pitcher Luke Hochevar has been transferred to the 60-day disabled list.

Wood, 28, was originally selected by the Royals in the third round of the 2006 June Free Agent Draft. He spent his first two Major League seasons in Kansas City, going 5-3 with a 3.75 ERA in a career-high 55 appearances during the 2011 season. He was selected off waivers by the Indians on November 2, 2012 and has pitched in parts of the last two seasons with Cleveland, including seven games this year.
