Royals in the community: June 4-11

As the Kansas City Royals return home to host the St. Louis Cardinals, New York Yankees and Cleveland Indians, Royals Charities and FOX Sports Kansas City partner on the Broadcast Auction, one of the biggest events of the year, on Tuesday, June 10. In addition, Royals Charities will host a 50/50 Raffle, presented by Edelman & Thompson, each game throughout the 2014 season. Please see below for more information.

Wednesday, June 4 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children. These youngsters, who face life-altering challenges, will meet Royals players, watch batting practice from the dugout and enjoy the game and refreshments. Their Royals experience appears on the KMBC-TV (Channel 9) 10 p.m. newscast.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Thursday, June 5 - St. Louis Cardinals vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • PLAY Clinic - The Royals team up with the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) to host a free PLAY (Promoting a Lifetime of Activity for Youth) clinic at Kauffman Stadium from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Royals Pitcher Luke Hochevar and Head Athletic Trainer Nick Kenney will join members of the Royals sports medicine staff to lead 100 pre-selected youth from the Kansas City Kansas and Kansas City Missouri Reviving Baseball in the Inner Cities programs in exercises to promote health and wellness.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

Friday, June 6 - New York Yankees vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Gordon to appear at Hy-Vee - Outfielder Alex Gordon, his wife Jamie and family will visit the Prairie Village Hy-Vee (7620 State Line Rd) from 11 a.m. to Noon, as part of the Alex's Lemonade Stand Foundation Midwest Lemonade Days at all area Hy-Vee stores and other locations. The Gordons will join volunteers to raise money for childhood cancer research. Gordon a dedicated supporter of ALSF for the past nine years, will promote a special contest encouraging children in the region to host their own home lemonade stand to benefit the Foundation.   • Stars of the Classroom - The Royals join the Missouri Lottery to honor outstanding educators through the Missouri Lottery Stars of the Classroom recognition program. Prior to six Royals games throughout the season, the Missouri Lottery and the Royals celebrate the achievements of top teachers from six school districts in the metro area.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

 

Saturday, June 7 - New York Yankees vs. Royals, 6:15 p.m.

  • Royals Visit Ronald McDonald House - Select Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs players and wives, will join mascots Sluggerrr and KC Wolf, along with Chiefs Cheerleaders and K-Crew members, to host a lunch for families at the Ronald McDonald House. From 11:00 a.m.- Noon, the two teams unite to meet and serve a meal to the families at the Longfellow House location at 2502 Cherry Street, Kansas City, Mo., 64108. The Ronald McDonald House provides as a "home away from home" for family members while children are receiving medical care in Kansas City-area hospitals.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

 

Sunday, June 8 - New York Yankees vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.

  • Play Sun Smart - The University of Kansas Hospital joins the Royals, Major League Baseball and the American Academy of Dermatology for Play Sun Smart Day. Fans can learn about skin cancer prevention, symptoms and treatment from skin cancer experts at Gate D prior to the game. In addition, a special pregame presentation will feature survivors and sun safety tips. The family of the late Royals Hall of Fame Pitcher Paul Splittorff will be honored in the Buck O'Neil Legacy Seat for their efforts towards skin cancer prevention.
  • Royals Charities and MLBPAA Concourse Auction - Royals Charities and the MLBPAA host a silent auction near the Majestic Team Store on the Field/Plaza Level from the time the gates open until the end of the sixth inning.

 

Monday, June 9 - New York Yankees vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Royals To Honor Jeter - The Royals will salute the stellar playing career of Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter prior to the series finale. The game marks the last regular-season contest at Kauffman Stadium for Jeter, who is retiring at the end of the 2014 season. Royals Charities, the charitable arm of the Royals, will present Jeter with a $10,000 donation to his Turn 2 Foundation during a special pregame ceremony which will also feature a video tribute to the Yankees captain.
  • All-Star Teacher Finalists - Major League Baseball, Target and PEOPLE have partnered to celebrate remarkable current and retired teachers who make an impact on the lives of their students and communities with the "Target Presents PEOPLE All-Star Teachers" campaign. Prior to the game, the Royals will honor three local nominees who are vying for the opportunity to represent the Royals at the 2014 All-Star Game in Minneapolis, Minn. Starting June 5, fans can vote for one of the Royals nominees at AllStarTeachers.com.

 

Tuesday, June 10 - Cleveland Indians vs. Royals, 7:10 p.m.

  • Royals Charities Broadcast Auction - Royals Charities and FOX Sports Kansas City partner for a special on-air auction, giving viewers the opportunity to bid on unique ballpark experiences or purchase exclusive Royals ticket packages. The auction begins at 6:30 p.m. during the Hy-Vee Royals LIVE pre-game show and continues throughout the telecast. For more information, visit www.royals.com/broadcastauction.
  • Dream Factory - Throughout the season, the Royals grant the wishes of Dream Factory children.   • Royals Father of the Year Honorees Recognized - In celebration of Father's Day, thousands of students submit essays entitled "What My Father Means to Me" through the National Center for Fathering's "Royals Father of the Year" contest. The winning authors and fathers are treated with complimentary game tickets and a special pregame reception from 4:45-6 p.m. in the Royals Hall of Fame Pavilion. Finalists will be recognized during pregame ceremonies, with the winning father sitting in the Buck O'Neil Legacy Seat that evening.

Wednesday, June 11 - Cleveland Indians vs. Royals, 1:10 p.m.
