A's Acquire LHP Justin Marks from Kansas City

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland Athletics have acquired left-handed pitcher Justin Marks from the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations and optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento, it was announced today. A corresponding 40-man roster move will be announced at a later time.

Marks was 3-2 with a 5.64 ERA in 13 games, two starts, with Triple-A Omaha. The 26-year-old had a 3.42 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 26.1 innings in his 11 relief appearances. Marks was recalled April 17 by the Royals and made his Major League debut in relief that day against Minnesota. He was optioned to Omaha April 20, appeared in 10 games following his option and was designated for assignment June 2.

Marks was originally selected by the A's in the third round of the 2009 draft. He was traded to Kansas City with right-handed pitcher Vin Mazzaro for outfielder David DeJesus.
