2014 San Francisco Giants First-Year Player Draft day 2 information

GIANTS DRAFT SELECTIONS: The San Francisco Giants have selected 10 players through the first two days of the 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft. To date, the Giants have selected four right-handed pitchers, one left-handed pitcher, one catcher, one infielder and three outfielders.

FROM THE COLLEGE RANKS: The Giants selected eight of their 10 draft picks out of the collegiate ranks. The Giants' top two selections yesterday were both college players and six of SF's eight picks today were selected from colleges.

GIANTS SELECT BEEDE WITH THEIR FIRST ROUND PICK: The San Francisco Giants selected Vanderbilt University right-handed pitcher Tyler Beede with the 14th overall pick. The 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-hander posted an 8-7 record with a 3.20 ERA (35er, 98.1ip) and 106 strikeouts in 16 games this season for Vanderbilt. Beede held opponents to a .210 batting average against and struck out 9.7 batters per 9.0 innings during his junior year. His season continues this weekend as Vanderbilt squares off against Stanford in the NCAA Super Regionals.

GIANTS SELECT GARCIA IN THE SECOND ROUND: With the 52nd pick in the draft, the Giants selected catcher Aramis Garcia out of Florida International University. The 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior batted .368 (60-for-163) with 34 runs, 14 doubles, eight home runs and 37 RBI this past season. He was named the Conference USA Player of the Year, along with First Team All C-USA honors. A Johnny Bench Award Watch List semifinalist for the second-consecutive season, Garcia led C-USA in batting average (.368), slugging percentage (.626) and finished second in on-base percentage (.442).

NOTES FROM DAY 2: In the third round, the Giants drafted RF Dylan Davis out of Oregon State University...the 6-foot-0, 215-pounder drove in a team-high 64 RBI this year, which led the Pac-12 Conference...SF's fourth round pick, RHP Logan Webb, is a Northern California native out of Rocklin High School in the Sacramento area...RHP Samuel Coonrad out of Southern Illinois University Carbondale was the Giants' fifth pick...this season he held opponents to a .226 average (70-for-310) and struck out 77 batters...CF Austin Slater, selected in the eighth round out of Stanford, ranked second in the Pac-12 conference with a .350 batting average.

The final round of this year's draft will start at 10 a.m. PT tomorrow with rounds 11 through 40.
