2014 San Francisco Giants First-Year Player Draft Information

GIANTS DRAFT SELECTIONS: The San Francisco Giants selected 40 players in this year's 2014 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft...the Giants selected 15 right-handed pitchers, six left-handed pitchers, seven infielders, seven outfielders and five catchers.

HIGH SCHOOL OR COLLEGE?: 25 of the Giants' 40 draft picks were out of the collegiate ranks and 15 of 40 were from high school.

GIANTS SELECT BEEDE WITH THEIR FIRST ROUND PICK: The San Francisco Giants selected Vanderbilt University right-handed pitcher Tyler Beede with the 14th overall pick...the 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-hander posted an 8-7 record with a 3.20 ERA (35er, 98.1ip) and 106 strikeouts in 16 games this season for Vanderbilt...Beede held opponents to a .210 batting average against and struck out 9.7 batters per 9.0 innings during his junior year...his season continues this weekend as Vanderbilt squares off against Stanford in the NCAA Super Regionals.

GIANTS SELECT GARCIA IN THE SECOND ROUND: With the 52nd pick in the draft, the Giants selected catcher Aramis Garcia out of Florida International University...the 6-foot-2, 195-pound junior batted .368 (60-for-163) with 34 runs, 14 doubles, eight home runs and 37 RBI this past season...he was named the Conference USA Player of the Year, along with First Team All C-USA honors. A Johnny Bench Award Watch List semifinalist for the second-consecutive season, Garcia led C-USA in batting average (.368), slugging percentage (.626) and finished second in on-base percentage (.442).

NOTES FROM DAY 2: In the third round, the Giants drafted RF Dylan Davis out of Oregon State University...the 6-foot-0, 215-pounder drove in a team-high 64 RBI this year, which led the Pac-12 Conference...SF's fourth round pick, RHP Logan Webb, is a Northern California native out of Rocklin High School in the Sacramento area...RHP Samuel Coonrad out of Southern Illinois University Carbondale was the Giants' fifth pick...this season he held opponents to a .226 average (70-for-310) and struck out 77 batters...CF Austin Slater, selected in the eighth round out of Stanford, tied for second in the Pac-12 conference with a .350 batting average.

NOTES FROM DAY 3: In the 15th round of today's draft, the Giants selected RHP Thomas "Benton" Moss out of the University of North Carolina...he has been a member of the Tar Heels' rotation for three years and led the team in innings pitched this spring...with their 37th round pick SF selected SS Garrett Christman, the son of Giants' amateur scout Kevin Christman...the Giants selected C Benito Santiago in the 38th round out of Coral Springs High School in Florida...he is the son of former All-Star catcher Benito Santiago and is committed to the University of Tennessee.

LOCAL TIES: The Giants selected seven players that have Northern California connections...with the fourth pick, the Giants selected RHP Logan Webb (Rocklin HS) from Rocklin...in the 23rd round, SF selected RHP Jordan Johnson (Cal St. Northridge) from Elk Grove and in the 33rd they took C Jared Deacon (Cal St. Fullerton), who is also from Elk Grove...with their 34th pick SF selected C Tim Susnara (St. Francis HS) from Redwood City...the 35th pick, RHP Mitch Hart (Granite Bay HS) is from Roseville and the 49th pick, RHP Joseph Ryan (Sir Francis Drake HS) is from Larkspur...the Giants also selected CF Austin Slater (eighth pick) from Stanford University.
