Info on design of new Reds camo uniforms

This past Wednesday against the Dodgers, the Reds debuted their new digital camo uniforms as part of the team's second Military Appreciation Night of the season. The new alternate uniform style was first unveiled back in December at Redsfest, but Wednesday's game represented the first time the club had donned the uniforms for a game.

While many fans were pleased to see their favorite team honoring the military with the uniforms, the Reds did receive some questions regarding the placement and appearance of the American flag patch on the jersey's right sleeve.

However, fans can rest assured that the Reds' jerseys meet the proper etiquette for these kinds of patches.

Club patches are usually reserved to the left sleeve, meaning any honorary or commemorative patches are sewn on the right sleeve. With that in mind, the American Flag patch is sewn on the right sleeve of the Reds alternate camo jerseys, with the club patch (wishbone C) sewn to the left sleeve.

In designing the uniform, the Reds made sure to confirm that their design was respectful of the proper traditions regarding the flag, including that it was appropriate to wear an American Flag patch on the left or right sleeve.

Additionally, when worn on the right sleeve, it is considered proper to reverse the design so that the union is at the observer's right to suggest that the flag is flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward.
