A's place LHP Pomeranz on 15-day DL; Recall RHP Scribner from Sacramento

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's placed left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right hand and recalled right-handed pitcher Evan Scribner from Triple-A Sacramento, the club announced today. The A's also acquired left-handed pitcher Brad Mills from the Milwaukee Brewers in a minor league trade in exchange for cash considerations.

Pomeranz is 5-4 with a 2.91 ERA and .225 opponents batting average in 17 games, including eight starts, with the A's. He began the season in the bullpen, going 1-1 with a 1.98 ERA in nine relief appearances. Pomeranz moved into the starting rotation May 7 and is 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA in eight starts since then. This is his second career stint on the DL.

Scribner was on the A's Opening Day roster and made two scoreless appearances (1.1 ip) before he was optioned to Sacramento April 7 when Ryan Cook was reinstated from the disabled list. He is 2-1 with nine saves and a 4.32 ERA in 21 relief appearances with the River Cats and has struck out 34 while walking just six in 25.0 innings. Scribner has allowed just one run over his last six appearances and 9.0 innings.

Mills has spent the entire season at Triple-A Nashville where he went 4-2 with a 1.56 ERA and .190 opponents batting average in 14 games, including 12 starts. His ERA is the lowest in the Pacific Coast League and fourth lowest among all full season minor leaguers. The 29-year-old left-hander also ranks third in the PCL in strikeouts (77) and opponents batting average. Mills is 1-2 over his last five starts but has a 0.87 ERA over that span. He made his Major League debut with Toronto in 2009 and last pitched in the majors with the Los Angeles Angels in 2012. Mills is 3-3 with a 7.76 ERA in 15 career appearances, including 10 starts.
