Astros set preliminary rosters for rookie affiliates

HOUSTON, TX - The Houston Astros have set the preliminary 2014 minor league rosters for the Rookie Level Greeneville Astros and the Rookie Gulf Coast League Astros. The announcement was made by Astros Director of Player Development Quinton McCracken.

The rosters are subject to change and will not be officially finalized until the clubs begin league play. Greeneville is scheduled to begin their season tonight at 7:00 p.m. ET (6:00 p.m. CT), while the GCL Astros will begin their season tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. ET.

The Astros signed 14 of their 2014 draft selections today, and they have been assigned to Greeneville and the GCL. The players assigned to Greeneville are RHP Dean Deetz (11th round), IF Connor Goedert (15th round), OF Ramon Laureano (16th round), IF Antonio Nunez (18th round), C Trent Woodward (20th round), IF Bryan Muniz (22nd round), OF Sean McMullen (30th round), RHP Joshua James (34th round) and RHP Eric Peterson (37th round). The players assigned to the GCL are C Ruben Castro (19th round), C Richard Gonzalez (29th round), IF Dexture McCall (31st round), OF Edwin Medina (33rd round) and RHP Justin Ferrell (36th round). The Astros have signed 28 of their 40 selections from the 2014 MLB Draft.

The Greeneville Astros are owned and operated by the Houston Astros, and last year finished with their second-best regular season record in club history at 38-30. Greeneville made it to the Appalachian League Championship series before falling to Pulaski, 2-0, in the three-game set.

The GCL Astros are based out of the Astros Spring Training complex in Kissimmee, FL. Last year the club went 27-33.
