Cleveland Indians to honor late radio/tv personality Mike Hegan, retiring Yankee SS Derek Jeter during next homestand

The Cleveland Indians will honor the late Mike Hegan, an Indians TV/radio personality from 1989-2011, in a special pregame ceremony on Monday, July 7 as the Indians take on the New York Yankees.

Hegan spent 23 seasons as a Tribe broadcaster, 14 in the Indians radio booth with Tom Hamilton. He also spent 18 seasons providing analysis on television for WUAB-TV43, FSN Ohio and SportsTime Ohio. Prior to his time as a broadcaster in Cleveland, he spent 12 seasons on Milwaukee Brewers broadcasts.

Hegan also played in the Major Leagues for 12 seasons, with the Yankees, Seattle Pilots, Milwaukee Brewers and Oakland Athletics. He played in the 1969 All-Star Game while a member of the Pilots, and won a World Series title with the A's in 1972.

Hegan, a Cleveland native who was a star athlete at St. Ignatius High School, was inducted into the Cleveland Sports Hall of Fame in 2011. He died in December. His father, Jim, was a longtime great Indians catcher, and played on the franchise's 1948 World Series championship team.

Retiring Yankee shortstop Jeter to be honored July 10

Yankee shortstop Derek Jeter will be honored in a pre-game ceremony before the Indians-Yankees game at 7:05PM on Thursday, July 10. (Date subject to change due to weather.)

Jeter, No. 9 on the sport's all-time hit list and a 13-time American League All-Star, is in his final season with the Yankees.
