Escobar, Duffy named Royals player, pitcher of the month for June

Fans can vote all season long at Kansas Sampler, Rally House

KANSAS CITY, MO (July 2, 2014) - The Kansas City Royals announce that shortstop Alcides Escobar is the Royals Majestic Player of the Month for June, while left-handed starter Danny Duffy is the club's Pitcher of the Month. The player award is determined by a combined fan and media vote, with the pitcher award voted on by local media.

Escobar led Major League shortstops in batting average (.374) and slugging percentage (.527). He paced American League shortstops in on-base percentage (.402), hits (34) and doubles (10). His batting average ranked third among all A.L. players while his on-base percentage was ninth.

Duffy recorded three wins in June while finishing second in the A.L. in opponents average (.168) and third with a 1.69 ERA. The opponents average is the second-lowest during June in club history and the ERA ranks third.

Fans have the opportunity to vote for the Royals Majestic Player of the Month throughout the season by visiting area Kansas Sampler and Rally House locations or the Royals Majestic Team Store at Kauffman Stadium. Participating fans will automatically be entered to win a VIP Experience package which includes an apparel prize pack, tickets to a Royals game and the opportunity to present the Player of the Month award.
