D-Backs Acquire Borenstein and Krehbiel from Angels for Thatcher and Campana

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) acquired Minor League outfielder Zach Borenstein and right-handed reliever Joey Krehbiel from the Los Angeles Angels for left-handed pitcher Joe Thatcher and Triple-A Reno outfielder Tony Campana and in a corresponding move, have recalled left-handed pitcher Eury De la Rosa from Reno, as announced by D-backs' Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers. Borenstein will report to Double-A Mobile while Krehbiel will be assigned to Single-A Advanced Visalia.

Borenstein, 23 (turns 24 on July 23), entered this season as the Angels' ninth-best prospect as rated by Baseball America and was a non-roster invitee to Spring Training. In 2013, he was named the Angels' Minor League Player of the Year and California League Most Valuable Player after hitting .337 with 28 homers, 95 RBI and a 1.034 OPS at Single-A Advanced Inland Empire. Among all minor leaguers, he ranked second in slugging percentage (.631) and OPS (1.034) and fifth in batting average (.337).

The 6-foot, 225-pounder hit .262 (79-for-301) with 17 doubles, 2 triples, 7 homers, 50 RBI and a .718 OPS in 78 games between Double-A Arkansas and Triple-A Salt Lake. He was most recently with Arkansas, where he appeared in 48 games and hit .266 (49-for-184) with 13 doubles, 2 triples, 5 homers and 28 RBI. In 30 games at Salt Lake, he hit .256 (30-for-117) with 4 doubles, 2 homers and 22 RBI.

Over parts of 4 seasons in the Angels system, Borenstein hit .292 (325-for-1,114) with 70 doubles, 16 triples, 48 homers, 216 RBI and .876 OPS in 300 games. He was the Angels' 23^rd-round pick in the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of Eastern Illinois University.

Krehbiel, 21, has held opponents scoreless in 14 of 17 relief appearances between Single-A Burlington and Single-A Advanced Inland Empire while recording 5 saves and a 2.00 ERA (4 ER in 18.0 IP) with 10 hits, 7 walks and 23 strikeouts. Most recently, he pitched for Inland Empire and in 4 games, had a 2.25 ERA (1 ER in 4.0 IP) with 2 hits, 1 walk and 6 strikeouts. In 13 games at Burlington, where he opened the season, he had a 1.93 ERA (3 ER in 14.0 IP) with 8 hits, 6 walks and 17 strikeouts.

The 6-foot-2, 185-pounder spent parts of 4 seasons in the Angels system and went 8-7 with 6 saves, a 3.85 ERA (52 ER in 121.2 IP), 47 walks and 133 strikeouts in 92 games (4 starts). He was the Angels 12^th-round selection in the 2011 draft out of Seminole High School in Seminole, Fla.

De la Rosa, 24, has 36 relief appearances for the Aces this season and is 2-4 with 2 saves, a 2.52 ERA (11 ER in 39.1 IP) and a .224 opponents average with 20 walks and 36 strikeouts. He has held lefties to a .150 average (8-for-60) with 8 walks and 19 strikeouts. Last season for the D-backs, he made 19 relief appearances. He wears No. 56.

Thatcher, 32, made 59 relief appearances over parts of 2 seasons for the D-backs and was 1-1 with a 3.78 ERA (14 ER in 33.1 IP) and .273 opponents average with 9 walks and 32 strikeouts.

Campana, 28, spent parts of 2 seasons with the D-backs and hit .198 (21-for-106) with 1 doubles, 2 triples, 3 RBI and 12 stolen bases.
