Cleveland Indians, Colorado Rockies Team Up On All-Star Game Final Voting With #Clevelandrox Vote Campiagn

Indians starter Corey Kluber, Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau among those vying for final spots on AL, NL rosters

Cleveland, OH-The Cleveland Indians and Colorado Rockies have teamed up to get Tribe starter Corey Kluber and Rockies first baseman Justin Morneau into the All-Star Game through the All-Star Game Final Vote.

Fans can vote online at Indians.com or MLB.com/vote through Thursday, July 10 at 4PM ET. Votes on Twitter will count on Thursday from 10AM-4PM; fans are encouraged to use #VoteKluber, #VoteMorneau and #ClevelandRox.

The symmetry between the teams and the players is hard to deny:

  • Kluber has apologized to Morneau for striking him out during Kluber's 12-strikeout performance at Progressive Field on May 30.
  • Morneau, a former AL Central resident for years with the Twins, subsequently apologized to Kluber for going 6-for-15 in his career against Kluber.
  • Morneau is from Canada, and Cleveland is pretty close to Canada. Tribe reliever John Axford and George Kottaras are Canadian.
  • Morneau and Kluber are huge hockey fans - Morneau played as a kid, and is a Bruins fan; his favorite players, according to Wikipedia, are Patrick Roy, Ray Borque and "Dumb and Dumber" star (and former Bruin) Cam Neely. Kluber, a Texas native, is a big Dallas Stars fan.
  • "Cleveland Rocks" is a famous song from a show featuring famous Clevelander Drew Carey, who has successfully completed a seemingly impossible task - replacing Bob Barker on "The Price is Right." The Rockies also are affectionately known as the "Rox."
  • Each are exceedingly stoic:
    • Upon hearing the news of his inclusion in the Final Vote, Kluber said, "Cool."
    • Morneau: "Nice."

Kluber and Morneau will need the support of Indians and Rockies fans, as the vote is purely an online vote by MLB fans. Kluber is up against Rick Porcello (Detroit), Chris Sale (Chicago), Garrett Richards (Los Angeles) and Dallas Keuchel (Houston).

Kluber has emerged as one of the best young starters in baseball, and is among the league leaders in several categories, including strikeouts (137, 4th). He earned the win Sunday, pitching 8.1 innings of 4-hit ball and striking out 10.
