Do It For Durrett benefit concert set for Monday, September 8 at Billy Bob's Texas

FORT WORTH - Do It For Durrett.

It's a simple slogan that means so much in the wake of the passing of sports reporter Richard Durrett.

The beloved sports journalist left behind an expectant wife and two young children. The tragedy brought about an outpouring of support for the always upbeat Durrett and his family, and led to the Do It for Durrett Benefit Concert Monday, Sept. 8 at Billy Bob's Texas at 7 p.m.

The World's Largest Honky Tonk is the only place big enough for the All Stars of Texas Country and performances by Rhett Miller and Daphne Willis. The stars of the show? Too big to name in the release, but how about 12 sold-out shows at Billy Bob's alone and a combined eight singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts.

And then there's Miller, who is the lead singer of the alternative country-rock band Old 97s, and Wills, a Texas native whose latest album "Live To Try", was released in April.

Tickets go on sale Friday, July 11 at 10 a.m., and are available at billybobstexas.com and the Billy Bob's Box Office. The cost is $20 in advance. All tickets at the door are $30, and a limited number of VIP tickets for $100 are also available.

"It's a wonderful night for a great cause," said Rangers TV personality Emily Jones. "I can't believe the musical lineup we've been able to put together, and the auction items, too. I think that really speaks to what a great guy Richard was. This is a great way for people to support him and his family."

If the music isn't enough, the night will feature the sports auction to end all auctions. In addition to a silent auction that will include everything from autographed memorabilia from the likes of Tony Romo, Dez Bryant, Dirk Nowitzki, Russell Wilson and Miguel Cabrera, there will be a live sports auction that can't be topped.

How would you like the opportunity to watch a Dallas Mavericks game while sitting next to owner Mark Cuban? That can happen. Want a Victory Lane Suite as well as VIP pit passes for every race at Texas Motor Speedway next year? It can be yours. A Dallas Cowboys experience with Brad Sham and Babe Laufenberg? It's there, too. Talk Rangers with general manager Jon Daniels and all-time great Michael Young over dinner? Done. Those are just a few of the experiences that will be handled during the auction run by Fox Sports Southwest's John Rhadigan on a night emceed by Rangers public-address announcer Chuck Morgan.
