Cubs sign right-handed pitcher Dylan Cease, sixth-round selection from 2014 Draft

CHICAGO - The Chicago Cubs have signed sixth-round selection Dylan Cease, a right-handed pitcher out of Milton (Ga.) High School. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The Cubs have now signed their first 22 picks as well as 26 selections overall from the 2014 Draft.

Cease, 18, was a pre-season first-team prep All-American heading into his senior season at Milton High School. He struck out 20 batters in 12.0 innings (15.0 strikeouts per 9.0 innings) without allowing a run before suffering an elbow injury in March that kept him off the mound the remainder of the season.

In his 2013 junior season with Milton, the six-foot, two-inch, 180-pound Cease was 9-0 with a 0.81 ERA in 69.1 innings. He struck out 100 batters, good for an average of 13.0 strikeouts per 9.0 innings pitched.
