D-backs award Lamb, Blair with monthly honors

PHOENIX -The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) named Double-A Mobile infielder Jake Lamb (@JakeLamb18) and Single-A Advanced Visalia right-handed pitcher Aaron Blair (@A_Blair19) the organization's Minor League Player- and Pitcher-of-the-Month for June, respectively.

Lamb, 23, hit .368 (35-for-95) with 11 doubles, 4 triples, 4 home runs, 27 RBI and 20 runs scored in 25 games in June for the Aces. During the month, he ranked among all Minor Leaguers in extra-base hits (T-2nd, 19), triples (T-2nd), RBI, (T-3rd), doubles (T-6th) and total bases (T-8th, 66). Lamb recorded 15 RBI in his first 10 games in June and batted .452 (19-for-42) with 12 extra-base hits. He was named the Southern League's Player of the Week for June 9-15 after going 10-for-21 (.476) with 6 extra-base hits and 11 RBI. Lamb was named to the Southern League All-Star Team as the South Division's starting third baseman and went 1-for-3 with 1 run scored. Entering 2014, he was tabbed by Baseball America as possessing the Best Strike-Zone Discipline in the D-backs farm system. A native of Seattle, Wash., Lamb was drafted in the sixth round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft from the University of Washington.

Blair, 22, went 3-0 with a 3.06 ERA (11 ER in 32.1 IP) in 5 starts (4 quality) in June for the Rawhide. His 39 strikeouts during the month led the California League and his 117 strikeouts on the season lead all Minor Leaguers. The organization's South Bend Player of the Month for April entered the season rated by Baseball America as the D-backs' No. 5 Prospect. The Las Vegas, Nev. native was drafted by the D-backs in the Competitive Balance Round-A (36th overall) in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft from Marshall University.

Every month during the season, the D-backs Player Development staff chooses the player and pitcher most deserving of the honors based on nominations from coaches at each affiliate along with input from the Minor League coordinators.
