Baseball Legend Joe Torre Sits Down for Exclusive Interview with Larry King on Sportsnet LA

"Larry King At Bat With Joe Torre" premieres Sunday at 5:00 p.m.

LOS ANGELES, CA - SportsNet LA is the exclusive 24/7 TV network of the Los Angeles Dodgers that takes fans behind-the-scenes of the team and offers in-depth access into the organization, providing an immersive experience with never-before-seen content and thousands of hours of comprehensive Dodger programming. This Sunday, July 13 at 5:00 p.m., SportsNet LA will debut "Larry King At Bat With Joe Torre," the newest installment of the talk show star's in-depth interview series on the Dodgers network. King sat down with the baseball legend to discuss his playing career, managing the Dodgers and the Yankees, his Safe at Home Foundation and much more.

In the hour-long episode, Torre also tells King about Clayton Kershaw, Don Mattingly, how he became the manager of the Yankees, his first Major League hit, how instant replay works and his abusive father. "Larry King At Bat With Joe Torre" will premiere following SportsNet LA's live coverage of the Dodgers game against the San Diego Padres as the team heads into the All-Star Break. An episode preview is available at http://www.sportsnetla.com/content/snla/shows/larry-king-at-bat-dodgers-show.zvrTMaeYXxVs.html.

Torre currently serves as MLB's Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations and has spent more than five decades playing, managing and working in baseball. He was elected to the Major League Baseball Hall of Fame this year and has won four World Series, been selected as an All-Star nine times and won the 1971 National League MVP. He and his wife, Ali, launched and run the Joe Torre Safe at Home Foundation, which works to save lives by educating to end the cycle of domestic violence.

Quote excerpts from the episode include:

On the first time he watched Clayton Kershaw pitch: "He came over from the minor league side. First pitch of the game, home run off him…I watched him, and he just went to the umpire and had a little disgusted look on his face. 'Give me the ball.'…That's a pretty good sign."

On managing the Dodgers: "There are a handful of teams that are just old school…Cardinals, the Dodgers and the Yankees. It was really cool coming here."

On his father: "I probably didn't enjoy my playing career as much as I really should have because if I didn't get any hits I would really torture myself thinking I let everybody down. And of course if I did hit, I felt like I was worthy…It wasn't until I went through a symposium which told me that all the abuse that was going on at my home was contributing to these feelings of insignificance and insecurity and nervousness."

On his playing career: "I was traded in 1969 and about a year or so into that, the Cardinals named me captain of the team, which surprised me because as I said, I had low self-esteem. I was seeing that other people thought more of me than I did. And it was a responsibility that helped me mature…The Cardinals years were really the best of my playing career because I was more aware of what I needed to do. "

The "Larry King At Bat" series features the iconic, award-winning TV and radio personality and lifelong Los Angeles Dodgers fan interviewing celebrities, baseball legends, Dodger personalities and other luminaries. Subjects to date have included Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Orel Hershiser, Tommy Lasorda and Conan O'Brien.
