Giants sign first round pick Tyler Beede

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. - The San Francisco Giants have signed right-handed pitcher Tyler Beede, their first round selection (14th overall) in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft, the club announced today.

The 6-foot-4, 215-pound right-hander out of Vanderbilt University, posted an 8-8 record with a 4.05 ERA (51er, 113.1ip) and 116 strikeouts in 19 starts this season while helping the Commodores win their first national championship, defeating Virginia two-games-to-one in the College World Series.

During his sophomore season, Beede led NCAA Division I with a school-record 14 victories and was one of three finalists for the Golden Spikes Award. He was named a first team All-American according to the NCBWA, a second team All-American by Collegiate Baseball, ABCA, Perfect Game and Baseball America.

As a Freshman, the Massachusetts native earned SEC All-Freshman team honors, as he went 1-5 with a 4.52 ERA (36er, 71.2ip).
