Marlins announce final 2014 Draft signings

Club signs top 22 selections, 33 overall

MIAMI - The Marlins today announced that the Club reached agreements with 33 of its 42 selections in the 2014 First-Year Player Draft prior to the today's signing deadline. The announcement was made by Vice President of Scouting Stan Meek.

Miami, which also signed two non-drafted free agents, reached agreements with the first 22 players it selected in last month's Draft, including the second overall pick, RHP Tyler Kolek, and five of the top 76 players selected overall.

"You can call this draft a success in terms of just the amount of players we signed, with the top-20, but I think we also got some athletic players," said Meek. "We got some athletic players up the middle that really addressed a need for us. Also, in addition to the second overall pick in Tyler Kolek, a big right-hander, we also got a good group of college left-handed pitchers that we feel add a lot of depth to the system.

"We feel good about the guys we signed, we're excited."

A complete list of the 2014 Draft class can be found in the attached PDF. The Club signed 22 players from the college ranks, and 11 high school players; they signed 18 pitchers (eight left-handers), nine infielders, two outfielders and four catchers. In addition, Miami signed two non-drafted left-handed college pitchers.
