Jacob deGrom named Co-NL Player of the Week

Major League Baseball named Mets righthanded pitcher Jacob deGrom the co-National League Player of the Week for the period ending July 27.

DeGrom, a 26-year-old rookie, went 2-0 with a 0.68 ERA (one earned run/13.1 innings) in two road starts during the week. The righthander beat Seattle, 3-1, on July 22 with 7.0 innings of one-run ball before limiting Milwaukee to four hits over 6.1 shutout innings in a 2-0 victory on July 27.

DeGrom became the first Mets rookie pitcher to win a Player of the Week award since Octavio Dotel in 1999 (July 5). Outfielder Juan Lagares won a Player of the Week award as a rookie in 2013 (July 21).

DeGrom shared this week's award with Miami's Steve Cishek.
