Twins acquire left-handed pitcher Tommy Milone from Athletics in exchange for outfielder Sam Fuld

Twins Recall First Baseman Kennys Vargas From Double-A

The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have acquired left-handed pitcher Tommy Milone from the Oakland Athletics in exchange for outfielder Sam Fuld. Milone will report to Triple-A Rochester. 

Milone made 16 starts for Oakland this season and posted a 6-3 record with a 3.55 ERA (96.1 IP, 38 ER) before being optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on July 5. In four starts with the River Cats, Milone posted a 1-1 record with a 6.43 ERA (21.0 IP, 15 ER). The 27-year-old appeared in 80 career games (78 starts) with Washington and Oakland from 2011-2014, going 32-22 while recording a 3.84 ERA (468.2 IP, 200 ER) with 339 strikeouts and just 105 walks. The 6-0, 205 pound left-hander was originally drafted by the Nationals in 10th round of the 2008 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Southern California. He was acquired by the A's from the Nationals along with pitcher Brad Peacock, catcher Derek Norris and pitcher A.J. Cole for pitcher Gio Gonzalez and pitcher Rob Gilliam on December 23, 2011.

Fuld, who was claimed off waivers from the Athletics on April 20, appeared in 53 games for the Twins this season hitting .274 (45-for-164) with 10 doubles, one home run and 17 RBI.

Additionally, the Twins have recalled first baseman Kennys Vargas from Double-A New Britain to take the spot of Fuld on the 25-man roster. Vargas has appeared in 97 games for the Rock Cats hitting .281 (100-for-356) with 17 doubles, 17 home runs and 63 RBI. Vargas will be looking to make his major league debut and is expected to join the team tonight in Kansas City. He will wear uniform number 19.
