Jayson Werth of the Washington Nationals voted the Budweiser Presents National League Player of the Month for July

Washington Nationals right fielder Jayson Werth has been voted the Budweiser Presents National League Player of the Month for July. Budweiser, the official beer sponsor of Major League Baseball and sponsor for 24 of 30 MLB clubs, is also the presenting sponsor of the American League Player of the Month Award.

In 24 games during July, Werth led the N.L. with 24 RBI, including six game-winning RBI (1st). His 11 doubles and 17 extra-base hits were both tied for first in the League, while his .687 slugging percentage and 57 total bases ranked second. Werth also ranked among League leaders with a .446 on-base percentage (3rd), six home runs (4th) and a .337 (28-for-83) batting average (6th).

Werth started the month by collecting nine hits with a pair of homers and nine RBI from July 1st -6th en route to earning his third career N.L. Player of the Week citation, and his first since joining the Nationals as a free agent prior to the 2011 season. On July 12th against the Philadelphia Phillies, he helped the Nationals to a 5-3 extra-inning victory over his former team, clubbing a two-run homer in the sixth inning. In the three-game series at Citizens Bank Park (July 11th-13th), Werth went a combined 3-for-10 with a pair of homers, five runs scored and seven RBI as the Nats took two of three contests. On July 20th, his clutch performance lifted the Nats over the Milwaukee Brewers in the rubber-match of a three-game set with the N.L. Central's top club. Werth sealed the victory with a two-out double to left field, which scored Anthony Rendon from first base for the decisive run in the Nationals' third walk-off victory this season. The 35-year-old currently leads the Nationals and ranks third in the League with 13 game-winning RBI this season. This is his second career Player of the Month Award. Werth was also voted N.L. Player of the Month for July 2013 after hitting .367 with seven homers, 22 RBI and 17 runs scored in 27 contests.
