Hall of Fame manager and special advisor to the chairman Tommy Lasorda will visit USS Anchorage tomorrow

LOS ANGELES - Hall of Fame Manager and Special Advisor to the Chairman Tommy Lasorda will tour the USS Anchorage, which is docked in San Pedro by the USS Iowa Museum, and will meet with sailors as part of Navy Days - LA tomorrow from 12:30 p.m.-1:30 p.m. Navy Days - LA is dedicated to educating citizens on the importance of sea power to U.S. national security and on the condition of sea services through the arranging and executing of port visits in the LA area of local military: United States Navy, Coast Guard and Marine Corps. 

Navy Days LA also promotes the growth and education of the Navy League Pacific Southwest Region's 24 Navy League Councils and their membership. The tour of the USS Anchorage will be led by Commander Joel Stewart.  

"It is truly an honor to have Hall of Famer Tommy Lasorda as a guest on board the USS Anchorage," said Command Master Chief (SW/AW) Pete Santos. "Our Sailors and Marines are motivated, dedicated professionals, with virtues of selfless service and devotion to duty. For them to have some down time and meet a baseball legend such as Mr. Lasorda is motivational and inspiring for these young men and women."

A group of pre-selected sailors will have the opportunity to take a commemorative photo with Lasorda, courtesy of Blue Prints.

The USS Anchorage is a San Antonio-Class Amphibious transport dock that was commissioned in its namesake city of Anchorage, Alaska on May 4, 2013. It was built to deploy, implementing forward presence, deterrence, sea control, power projection, maritime security and responding to crises worldwide and humanitarian assistance/disaster preparedness. The USS Anchorage's overall length is 684 feet and it can accommodate 32 officers and 364 enlisted sailors.

Tomorrow's visit will take place at the Pacific Battleship Center, Battleship USS IOWA BB-61, 250 South Harbor Blvd., San Pedro, 90731.
  
Media will need a government issued photo ID to board the ship. Closed toed, flat rubber soled shoes are recommended as well as comfortable attire pants as opposed to shorts or skirts for women are recommended as well, as there may be stairs and/or ramps to climb during the visit.
