D-backs reinstate Pennington from 15-day disabled list; option Schultz to Reno

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks (@Dbacks) reinstated infielder Cliff Pennington from the 15-day disabled list (sprained left thumb) and optioned right-handed pitcher Bo Schultz to Triple-A Reno, as announced by D-backs' Executive Vice President & General Manager Kevin Towers.

Pennington, 30, hit .406 (13-for-32) with a double, 5 RBI, 6 walks and 5 runs scored in 9 rehab games with Triple-A Reno and Rookie AZL D-backs.

In 33 games with Arizona this season, he has hit .243 (18-for-74) with 4 doubles, 1 triple and 6 RBI. He last appeared in a game with the D-backs on June 1 vs. Reds.

Schultz, 28, pitched in 4 games for the D-backs this season, going 0-1 with a 7.88 ERA (7 ER in 8.0 IP). Schultz, who threw 4.1 innings last night vs. Royals, made his Major League debut on March 23 vs. Dodgers in Sydney, Australia.
