Dodgers place Hanley Ramirez on the DL, recall Darwin Barney from Triple-A

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed shortstop Hanley Ramirez on the 15-day disabled list (retroactive to August 9) with a right oblique strain and recalled infielder Darwin Barney from Triple-A Albuquerque.

Barney, 28 was acquired on July 28 from Chicago-NL in exchange for a player to be named later (minor league right-handed pitcher Jonathan Martinez) and optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque, where he went 9-for-35 (.257) with a double and an RBI in nine games at shortstop (6 G) and third base (3 G). Prior to being designated for assignment by the Cubs on July 22, Barney had hit safely in eight of his last 10 Major League games, batting .385 (15-for-39) with two doubles, two triples and an RBI, and hit .230 with two home runs and 16 RBI in 72 games overall. In the field, Barney committed only three errors in 504.0 innings in 67 games (55 starts) at second base.

Ramirez is batting .277 with 12 home runs and 58 RBI in 100 games this season.
