Lake County RHP Mitch Brown Earns Minor League Player of The Week Honors

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced that Single-A Lake County RHP MITCH BROWN has been named Indians Minor League Player of the Week for the period of August 4-11. The Indians Player of the Week Award recognizes an individual performance from within the Indians Player Development System and is announced each Tuesday through the end of the Minor League season.

Brown, 20, picked up his third straight win after working a season-high 7.0 shutout innings in a 3-0 Captains victory over the West Michigan Whitecaps on Wednesday at Lake County. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-hander has notched back-to-back scoreless starts, and is currently riding a 17.0 consecutive scoreless innings streak dating back to his start on July 25 vs. Wisconsin. After beginning the year 0-6 with a 4.43 ERA (32 ER/65.0 IP) in 14 starts, Brown has gone 5-2 with a 2.82 ERA (16 ER/51.0 IP) in 9 second half starts, limiting opposing batters to a .203 (36-177) average against. Brown has held down a 0.78 ERA (2 ER/23.0 IP) over his last 4 outings, registering 25 strikeouts against just 8 walks over that span.

Originally drafted by Cleveland in the second round of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft out of Rochester Century High School (MN), Brown entered the 2013 campaign ranked as the 5th best Indians prospect by MLB.com, but was limited to just 17 games due to right shoulder/biceps injuries. In his first campaign at a full-season level in the Indians minor league system, Browns has set career-high marks in virtually every pitching statistical category, including starts (23), innings (116.0), wins (5) and strikeouts (102).
