Rockies select the contract of INF/OF Matt McBride from Triple-A

DENVER - The Colorado Rockies announced today that the club has selected the contract of infielder/outfielder Matt McBride from Triple-A Colorado Springs. In addition, they have optioned left-handed pitcher Yohan Flande to Triple-A and transferred infielder Troy Tulowitzki from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day disabled list. McBride (#7) will be available for tonight's game against the Kansas City Royals at Coors Field (6:40 p.m. MT).

McBride, 29, will be returning to the Major Leagues for the first time since playing in 31 games for the Rockies in 2012. That 2012 experience with Colorado is his lone season of Major League service. The native of Bethlehem, PA hit .205 (16-for-78) with 2 doubles, 2 home runs, 11 RBI and 8 runs scored with the Rockies in 2012. Outside of four games with rookie-level Grand Junction while on a rehab assignment, McBride has spent the 2014 season at Triple-A Colorado Springs, where in 51 games he has batted .305 (57-for-187) with 11 doubles, 1 triple, 7 home runs, 35 RBI and 27 runs. McBride was acquired by Colorado as part of a five player trade that sent Ubaldo Jimenez to Cleveland on July 30, 2011. 

Flande, 28, has gone 0-5, with a 5.52 ERA (45.2 ip, 28 er) in nine games/eight starts over two stints with Colorado. He made his Major League debut on June 25th at Coors Field against the St. Louis Cardinals, going 5.0 innings with 4 runs and a no-decision. Flande began the season with Triple-A Colorado Springs and went 2-9 with a 4.42 ERA (71.1 ip, 35 er) in 14 games (13 starts) for the Sky Sox. Yohan spent time in the Phillies (2006-10) and Braves (2011-13) organizations before joining the Rockies organization this year.

Tulowitzki, 29, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a left hip flexor strain on July 22 after hitting a Majors-best .340 (107-for-315), 18 doubles, 1 triple, 21 home runs, 52 RBI and 71 runs in 91 games this season. With his first half play, Tulowitzki became a four-time All-Star, second-straight as a fan-elected starter, and was the National League's captain in the Gillette Home Run Derby. The Rockies first round pick (7th overall) in the 2005 First-Year Player Draft has played in 961 Major League games hitting .299 (1068-for-3574) with 205 doubles, 24 triples, 176 home runs, 604 RBI and 614 runs.
