Astros sign two-year extension with Tri-City club

ValleyCats to remain Class A Short Season affiliate through 2016

The Houston Astros announced today that the club has extended its Player Development Contract (PDC) with the Class A Short Season Tri-City ValleyCats of the New York-Penn League. The two-year extension continues the affiliation between the Astros and ValleyCats through the 2016 season. The announcement was made by Astros Director of Player Development Quinton McCracken.

"We are extremely happy to renew our partnership with Bill Gladstone and his ownership group in Tri-City," said McCracken. "It is truly a first class operation and a dynamic environment for our players, one that is very conducive to developing Major League players both on and off the field of play."

"The ValleyCats are pleased to continue our excellent relationship with the Houston Astros, which will mark our 15th and 16th years together," said ValleyCats President Bill Gladstone. "We look forward to many more winning seasons."

The ValleyCats have been the Astros Class A Short Season affiliate since 2002, and since 2012 the ValleyCats have posted more wins than any Class A Short Season club by going 139-83 (.626). Over the past four seasons, Tri-City has won their league championship twice (2013, 2010), and this season the club won their third consecutive Stedler Division Title.
