Cards announce roster changes

Wacha & Mott to begin injury rehab

The St. Louis Cardinals announced a number of roster moves prior to this afternoon's series finale against the Cubs.

The team recalled lefty reliever Kevin Siegrist and infielder Pete Kozma from Memphis (AAA) today and optioned lefty pitchers Marco Gonzales, Nick Greenwood and Tyler Lyons to Springfield (AA) following last night's game. The team also announced that right-handed pitchers Michael Wacha (right shoulder) and Jason Motte (lower back) have been assigned to Springfield (AA) on a 30-day injury rehabilitation assignment and they are both scheduled to pitch tonight at Tulsa.

 Siegrist appeared in six games for Memphis this month, allowing just one run and three hits in his 6.2 innings pitched while striking out 11. He was 1-3 with a 6.11 ERA in 32 games (28.0 IP) with the Cardinals earlier this season, fanning 33.

Kozma was batting .248 with 8 home runs and 54 RBI in 117 games at Memphis. He has appeared in four games for the Cardinals this season (.333 BA; 1-for-3).

Lyons fanned a career high 8 batters in 4.2 innings of relief in Game 1 of yesterday's double-header, the most by a Cardinals relief pitcher since 1978. Gonzales earned his first Major League win in last night's 13-2 win over Chicago, allowing just one run and three hits in his 6.0 innings of work.
