Royals Name John Boles Sr. Advisor To The General Manager/player Development

The Kansas City Royals have announced that the club has hired John Boles as Senior Advisor to General Manager Dayton Moore/Player Development.

"I've always admired and respected John's abilities," said Dayton Moore. "He is regarded as one of the top player development minds in the game. We're very excited to be able to work with John."

Boles returns to the Royals organization, where he worked for four seasons from 1986-1989 as the Director of Player Development, also serving briefly in 1986 as manager at Triple-A Omaha. Most recently, he spent the last seven seasons with the Seattle Mariners as a special assistant to the GM. Prior to his time in Seattle, Boles worked from 2001-2003 as Senior Advisor, Baseball Operations with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He was the field manager for the Florida Marlins from 1999-2001, as well as serving as interim manager in 1996. Including his 75-game stint as interim manager, Boles compiled a 205-241 record for the Marlins. He worked for the Expos in 1991 and then with the Marlins as Director of Player Development and later, VP of Player Development. Boles began his non-playing career in 1981, managing in the minor leagues in the Chicago White Sox (1981-85) and Royals organizations (1986).

Boles and his wife, Rosemary, reside in Melbourne, Fla., and have two sons: Blake and Kevin.
