As the 2016 Draft signing deadline came and went on Friday, just two of the 316 players selected within the first 10 rounds went unsigned.
There were two first-rounders, both high school left-handed pitchers -- No. 7 Braxton Garrett and No. 12 Jason Groome -- -- still on the unsigned list as of Thursday. News came out on Thursday night that Groome agreed to terms with the Red Sox, with reports on Friday morning of Garrett reaching a deal with the Marlins, and both clubs announced the signings on Friday.

Groome, who was ranked No. 1 on MLBPipeline.com's Top 200 Draft prospects list entering the Draft, slid to No. 12 overall due to signability concerns as well as some worry about makeup. The New Jersey high schooler agreed to a bonus of $3.65 million. Pick value for that selection was $3,192,800.
Groome's signing allowed the Red Sox to complete deals with their remaining unsigned picks in the top 10 rounds. Fourth-rounder Bobby Dalbec, the third baseman from the University of Arizona, agreed for $650,000 (pick value was $501,300), while fifth-round pick Mike Shawaryn, a right-hander from the University of Maryland, agreed to a $637,500 deal, also above pick value ($375,500).
Garrett was ranked No. 10 on the Top 200. The lefty from the Alabama prep agreed to a bonus of $4,145,900. Pick value for the seventh overall selection was $3,756,300.
The Pirates weren't able to reach a deal with Nick Lodolo, taken No. 41 overall in Lottery Round A. He is headed to Texas Christian University in the fall. The pick value for No. 41 is $1,576,000. The Bucs were 3 percent over their bonus pool, incurring a small penalty tax. They could have come close to offering Lodolo pick value without breaching that 5 percent overage. But perhaps with an understanding that Lodolo wouldn't sign, they gave 11th-rounder Max Kranick $300,000 to sign, with $200,000 of that counting towards the pool. Pittsburgh will receive a compensation pick, No. 42 overall, for not signing Lodolo.
The other unsigned pick was a seventh-round selection. Houston took Tyler Buffett, but he plans to return to OSU for his senior season, and the Astros will not receive compensation for this.
