5 Braves prospects injured in DR car accident

Five Atlanta Braves prospects suffered minor injuries and one broke his leg in a car accident near the club's baseball academy in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic, on Saturday.

Pedro Agustín Encarnacion, 24, Rubén Dario Pérez, 21, Luis David Perez, 18, Alexander Aquino Mojica, 18, Randy Ventura Rodriguez, 18, and Luis Martín Severino Galvan, 18, were traveling on highway San Pedro-Ramòn Santana after a Dominican Summer League game when Encarnacion, who was driving, lost control of the vehicle in a curve and slid off the road into the thick brush, according to the Dominican Republic website MacorisDelMar.com

The players were transported to hospitals in Santo Domingo, the website said. A team official confirmed the accident, saying Severino suffered a broken leg and the other prospects walked away with minor injuries.

This marks the second vehicular accident for the Braves this year after the team bus of the club's Class A Carolina affiliate overturned in May.
