Mario Alcantara, Dakody Clemmer, Arnaldo Hernandez, Brendan McCurry and Jake Romanski have been suspended for violating the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program, the Commissioner's Office announced Thursday.
All five players received 50-game suspensions without pay for breaking the rules of the drug policy.
Alcantara is a free agent, so his suspension is effective upon signing with a Major League organization. The 23-year-old right-hander pitched for the Class A Advanced Salem Red Sox in 2016, going 9-2 with a 3.16 ERA.
Clemmer is a right-hander for the Rookie-level Arizona League Indians. His suspension will be effective at the beginning of the 2017 Arizona League season. The 20-year-old went 1-0 with a 7.71 ERA in 18 2/3 innings last season.
Hernandez, a right-hander in the Royals organization, will begin his suspension at the start of the South Atlantic League season. The 20-year-old, who is on the Class A Lexington Legends roster, went 5-2 with a 5.86 ERA for Rookie-level Idaho Falls in 2016.
McCurry is a right-hander in the Astros organization and will begin his suspension at the beginning of the Texas League season. The 24-year-old went 3-5 with a 3.07 ERA in 82 innings split between Triple-A Fresno and Double-A Corpus Christi in 2016.
Romanski, a catcher in the Red Sox organization, hit .308 with four home runs and 38 RBIs in 90 games for Double-A Portland last season. The 26-year-old is on the Triple-A Pawtucket roster and his suspension will be effective at the start of the International League season.
