Plenty of Giants in mix for ASG starts

7 San Francisco players rank among leaders at their position

ATLANTA -- Befitting their first-place status in the National League West, the Giants were represented among the leading vote-getters at each position in the first 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot NL update announced Wednesday.
Closest to the top spot at his respective position was Buster Posey, a three-time All-Star, who ranked second among catchers with 439,239 votes. St. Louis' Yadier Molina topped the catchers with 517,825 votes.

Of the six other Giants to appear among the leaders, only shortstop Brandon Crawford trailed the No. 1 vote recipient at his position by fewer than a half-million votes. Crawford was fourth with 246,390 votes, close behind third-place Asdrubal Cabrera of the Mets (247,954), but well back of Chicago's Addison Russell (544,240) and Colorado's Trevor Story (534,290).

The other Giants to be named among the leaders were first baseman Brandon Belt (second place, 271,670 votes), second baseman Joe Panik (fourth, 192,141), third baseman Matt Duffy (fifth, 164,233), outfielder Hunter Pence (ninth, 238,407) and outfielder Angel Pagan (15th, 155,507). Pence is a three-time All-Star; Panik and Crawford made their first All-Star teams last year.
Fans can cast their votes for starters at MLB.com and all 30 club sites -- on their computers, tablets and smartphones -- exclusively online using the 2016 Esurance MLB All-Star Game Ballot until Thursday, June 30, at 11:59 p.m. ET. Vote up to five times in any 24-hour period for a maximum of 35 times.
