Hi, I'm Evan Longoria... No, Really I Am!

It is hard enough to go on a road trip with family or your friends. It seems every few minutes somebody needs a “pit stop” or is tired of driving or, and this is the worst, forgets something vital and makes the whole party turn around or stop entirely. I can only imagine what it’s like for a Major League Baseball team when they hit the road.

I guess Joe Maddon and the Tampa Bay Rays could share a hum dinger of a travel tale with us. It seems that on the club’s recent trip to Canada, Superstar third baseman, Evan Longoria forgot to pack his passport and held the team’s flight up for an extended period of time. I can see that. Last summer I had to cross the border on The Warp Tour. If we hadn’t been stopped and two big Canadian gents in uniforms hadn’t boarded the tour bus and said, “Welcome to Canada, passports please,” I wouldn’t have batted an eye. Going to Toronto isn’t like going to Ireland or China. They are our “Neighbors to the North." It’s like when I was a kid and went over to Mike Dial’s house. He lived up the block and when I’d knock on the door Mrs. Dial didn’t ask me for my “papers."

So I’m going to cut Evan some slack on this one. Besides, I guess he just assumed that everyone in the world saw his last New Era spot where he races to find the young man that took his cap. He should have just walked up to the pretty Canadian woman working the customs desk and said, “Hi, I’m Evan Longoria.” He might have been given the benefit of the doubt.
