The centerfielder, Mariano Rivera. Wait, what?

There has been a lot written about Yankees closer Mariano Rivera over the past few days. Mo recorded his 601st career save and stands one away from becoming the all-time leader…but wait, there's more!

After all the seasons of outstanding service, the saves and the world championships, Mo has a simple request of the only organization he has ever played for…"Let me get one game in centerfield!"

I'm all for this! It's Mo! He has been so great for so long and what would be the harm, right?…I mean, assuming the Yanks have secured a playoff spot and have a game or two to rest starters in preparation for the Postseason, that is.

Swisher has gotten his turn on the mound, and as much as I'm a Swisher fan, he isn't a Yankee the way Mariano is a Yankee.

All the pitchers spend the batting practice sessions shagging fly balls. I am sure Mo would do fine out there…but if I'm Joe Girardi, I tell Gardy and Swish to cover a lot of ground and give Mo the "Cans of Corn." We don't want to see The Sandman injured living out his outfield fantasy…well, by we I mean Yankee fans…I'm sure a tweaked hammy wouldn't make anyone in Boston, Tampa Bay, Texas, Anaheim or Detroit lose any sleep.

In all seriousness, I hope Mo gets a shot to play center before he hangs them up. This time of the year, we get to see rookies experience their first September call-up. Some of the veterans get to be honorary manager for the day. The grind that is the regular season is starting to wind down, why not take some time to slow down and take it all in... before another 162 games are in the books.
